A delegation of Canadian pork exporters visited Vietnam in April to explore market opportunities for Canadian pork and pork products.

Thirteen Canada Pork International (CPI) member companies participated in a seminar series held in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The events were organized in conjunction with the Canadian Embassy in Hanoi and the Canadian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.

Close to fifty local people attended the seminars and participated in the one-on-one meetings designed to facilitate contact between Canadian exporters with the local further processing and food service industry.

CPI has identified Vietnam as a market with potential for further growth—pork makes up nearly 70 per cent of local animal protein consumption. Additional free-trade agreements would enhance Canada’s competitive position here, in a market with a clear preference for pork meat and pork products.

Canadian pork exports to Vietnam almost reached 3,500 tonnes in 2015.
