According to a press release published by Rosselkhoznadzor, the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, discussions between Yeugeny Nepoklonov, Deputy Head of Rosselkhoznadzor, and Dr. Harpreet S. Kochhar, Chief Veterinary Officer of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), took place in Paris on May 24, 2016.

During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of cooperation between Russia and Canada in veterinary surveillance and biosafety of mutual supplies of animal products. Recent temporary restrictions imposed by Russia on pork and pork products from Canada were caused by detection of ractopamine residues in the Canadian pork products.

It is not known when the Russian visit to lift plant suspensions will take place. CPI will keep its members posted on any new developments as they come.
