CPI Seminar in Beijing 2013 China continues to be a competitive market for pork. CPI was in Beijing recently, presenting a seminar to key contacts, working to ensure Canada remains a key supplier to China. ![]() The objective of the seminar was to educate attendees about the Canadian pork industry. The seminar also presented an opportunity to showcase the marketing tools recently developed by CPI including the Canadian Pork Quality Standards tool for meat colour and marbling and two promotional videos on pork quality and pork safety in Canada. In attendance were Mr. Murray Gwyer from the Canadian Embassy in Beijing and Ms. Hu Xin from the China Meat Association (CMA), both gave presentations during the seminar. CPI members attending the seminar had the opportunity to connect with potential customers who supply the Beijing market by meeting with them one-on-one with more time to network during a dinner reception which featured Canadian pork. So far in 2013, China/Hong Kong has become the third largest market for Canada with 132 610 tonnes for the first nine months of the year, representing 15% of the total Canadian pork exports, an increase of 19.9% over the same period in 2012. In 2012, Canada exported 154,458 tonnes of pork to China and Hong Kong for a value of $261 million. ![]() Food & Hotel China 2013 One of China’s premier business exhibition for the global food and hospitality sector, Food & Hotel China (FHC), took place November 13-15 in Shanghai. This was the seventeenth year for this trade show which focuses on buyers of quality imported products from the retail, hospitality and food trade sectors. A total of 30,156 buyers from across China visited this year’s show. CPI took part at FHC with a pavilion in the meat sector. Fifteen CPI member organizations participated, taking advantage of the opportunity to reconnect with existing clients as well as network and meet potential new clients. The Canada China Legislative Association (CCLA) 10-person delegation visited the CPI pavilion during the show. CCLA promotes the exchange of information between Canadian parliamentarians and representatives of the National Peoples’ Congress of China to encourage closer ties between the two countries. CPI continues promotion efforts in China and will participate in SIAL China in Shanghai on May 13-15, 2014. Back to main page › |
