Canada Pork International held its annual meeting, themed “25 Years Serving the Industry” in Montreal, on February 18, 2016.

The meeting opened with remarks from CPI Chair Neil Ketilson and the introduction of the new Executive and Board of Directors for 2016-2017. Jacques Pomerleau, President CPI followed with a presentation of the most recent 2015 statistics for Canadian pork exports along with an overview of the CPI activities planned for 2016-2017. Michael Young presented an update of the National Pork Marketing program including objectives, strategies and programs. Shoji Nomura made a short presentation on CPI’s marketing strategy in Japan.

After the break, the market access session began with Nicholas Christie, A/Director, Horizontal Business Integration from the Operations Modernization Project Office of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). He made a presentation on CFIA transformation initiatives and its electronic service delivery platform.

This presentation was followed by a panel on market access issues. They also discussed the latest market access developments and upcoming issues affecting the pork sector.

During the afternoon session, speakers provided CPI members with insight into what Canadian pork exporters might expect for 2016 and beyond. On behalf of the industry and CPI members, Jacques Pomerleau was also acknowledged for his exceptional contribution as President and Executive Director of CPI from 1991 to 2016.
