Canada Pork International (CPI) was in Mexico April 14 to present the first “hands-on” seminar for chefs and retailers in Mexico City. This seminar was followed the next day by a cutting demonstration held in collaboration with Canada Beef and directed to an audience of hotel restaurant and institution operators.

The main objective was to highlight new meat presentations and promote applications for underutilized cuts to these sectors. CPI identified the need to further promote Canadian pork and pork products to these influential end-users who are not currently importing product into this market. The goal was to demonstrate the quality and benefits of Canadian pork to increase demand.

Growth in exports to this market has been substantial in recent years. In order to sustain this growth, CPI is investing in targeted activities to processors, retailers and food service operators. These activities are reinforced by intensive market access initiatives in cooperation with the Canadian embassy to enhance access of fresh pork meat into this market.

More than 50 participants attended the seminars along with local media, who were covering the event. Highlights will be published in major newspapers locally. Members of the CPI team were interviewed and photographed and this will be showcased as part of feature culinary article on Canadian pork and beef.

Canadian pork exports to Mexico totaled 104,615 tonnes in 2014 making it the fourth largest export market in terms of volume.
