FHC China 2015, a successful event for Canadian pork exporters
FHC China, a business exhibition catering to the global food and hospitality sector in China, took place November 11–13, 2015 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, Pudong.

Canada Pork International (CPI) along with a delegation of pork exporters from across Canada participated in the trade show. CPI’s pavilion, adjacent to the official Canada Pavilion, allowed the fifteen CPI member companies to meet with buyers from the hospitality, retail, import and distribution sectors in China. This show offers a professional platform for trade and the opportunity for Canadian pork exporters to establish new business contacts in the Chinese market. It also strengthens Canada’s position as a main supplier to this key market.

The significant growth in the number of visitors to the CPI booth along with an increase in requests for Canadian pork is a direct consequence of the decision in October to lift the suspension which affected six pork plants. This suspension by Chinese authorities lasted almost a year. In the coming months, CPI expects to see continuing interest in Canadian pork from Chinese buyers and a significant increase in pork and pork products exported to China.

The next FHC China takes place in November 2016. In the meantime, CPI continues its promotional efforts in China, participating in SIAL China in Shanghai on May 5–7, 2016.

Supermarket Tour in China to Learn More About Business Opportunities
The Consulate General of Canada in Shanghai organized a special program for the 2015 FHC China Canada pavilion participants. On November 10, registered participants visited Yihaodian (www.yhd.com) and the Greenland Super Store (www.glcp.com.cn). These retailers feature imported food products and the visit provided the chance to learn more about business opportunities and the e-commerce sector in China.

“We know from our multi-year FHC experience that Canadian exporters love meeting with prominent food companies and with selected local importers, in addition to seeing public visitors in their FHC booths,” said Henry Deng, Trade Commissioner at The Consulate General of Canada in Shanghai.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) signed a Strategic Co-operation Agreement with Yihaodian on June 11, 2015, and launched a Canadian Fresh Food Pavilion. The November 10 visit was a meaningful follow-up to learn about the achievements to date and to find out more about business opportunities in the Chinese market.

This event generated a high level of interest among Canadian participants and CPI members; all attendees enjoyed the tour.

CPI wishes to thank Mr. Henry Deng from the Consulate General of Canada in Shanghai and his team for organizing this valuable event for the Canadian exporters and for their continued effort in promoting Canadian products.
