CPI offers several programs to assist members in their efforts to expand exports.

EXPORT MARKET DEVELOPMENT
This program provides contributions on a cost shared basis for generic company- initiated export market development activities that may deal with market access issues and with the quality and the dependability of supply. Canadian packers, processors and trading houses that are regular CPI members can apply. The program is meant to promote Canadian pork exports.

Export Market Diversification (EMD)- (Participation at a CPI
booth / seminar)

This funding component links directly with the CPI export promotion activities and covers:

a. member attendance at CPI led/initiated seminars abroad
b. member attendance at trade shows in which CPI has a booth
c. members representing CPI at an international trade show
d. member attendance at table top or solo shows organized by the Canadian Government

Export Market Investigation (Outgoing missions) (EMI)
This component covers outgoing missions to targeted markets. To qualify, the mission it must be incremental in nature (i.e. new market or market segment, developing new products, meeting new customers) and must be approved by CPI to be of benefit to two or more regular members. The lead company must provide a report which will be made available to all members.

Export Market Adaptation (Incoming missions) (EMA)
This component covers in-coming missions from targeted markets to Canada. It must be approved by CPI that there is a benefit to more than one hog processor in Canada. These visits must be incremental in nature and are mostly undertaken to train packers’ staff on foreign specificationss or to show foreign buyers the quality and availability of Canadian pork products. The lead company must provide a report which will be made available to all members.

Branded Product Promotion
The expenses eligible for a branded program might include:

Printed promotion, advertising in electronic media, billboards or posters;
In-store promotions or at restaurants, product demonstrations at retail and for end consumers, use of part-time staff to assist in the implementation of specific activities to promote at points of purchase or installation of exhibits, production and distribution of advertising outlets and expenses related to the distribution of samples (excluding expenses related to the acquisition of samples);
Business Seminars to inform foreign industry representatives on specific attributes of Canadian pork products
Cost of travel and per diems as long as the trip is related to one eligible activity, such as trade shows and promotional activities, and
Costs related to design and development of packaging and labeling
